Hey there.

First and foremost, it’s definitely my duty to ask you to calm down. I know you’re extremely excited and all that this is my first post and that you’ve found your lifestyle inspiration source for all things interior related….but we wouldn’t want you to collapse from all the excitement, now would we? So take a deep breath, relax and let the inspiration begin.

The first thing you should do when planning to do/redo your interior is head to the internet and look for the perfect interior for you to imitate, right? WRONG!!

Don’t get me wrong, it is good that you are not just winging it and are at least seeking inspiration. The problems lies in the imitation. The internet is a wonderful and inspiring place but you need to understand that to  SUCCESSFULLY be inspired, you have to look at the process as an ART.

To demonstrate this I shall shall share with you how I created a mood board for one of my recent clients, Linda O.

After taking my style personality quiz (Click here to take the quiz!) we determined that she has an ‘Industrial style with a touch of African Flare”.

With that as my starting point and armed with the internet I set to work. Here are the steps I took to prepare the mood board that would be the inspiration to her living room design.

STEP 1: TEXTURES

Both styles (Industrial and African) embrace a raw unfinished look so I started by incorporating these textures.

STEP 2: COLOURS

I preferred to emphasize the textures so I opted to use neutral colours with a slight pop from the brick red.

STEP 3: PATTERNS

In order to create depth and add the African touch I chose monochromatic African prints. The neutral colours tie the bold African style with the more modern industrial theme.

STEP 4: FURNITURE

Furniture from both themes all tied together by their modern style.

STEP 5: ACCESSORIES

I selected accessories based off of the textures, colours and patterns I was inspired by.

COMPLETED MOOD BOARD:

INDUSTRIAL WITH A TOUCH OF AFRICAN

And with that ladies and gentlemen, its time for the big reveal. Drum rolls please……..

I hope you’ve learnt a valuable interior decor/design skill. Next time you or anyone you know is doing/redoing any space in their home YOU BETTER NOT just rush to the internet to look for a home to intimidate.
