Its the last day of 2015. I honestly cant believe how this year has flown by. It’s been such a blessing and I  truly thank God for every single moment.

One of my favourite design moments this year was when Pantone announced that their colour of the year would be MARSALA. The world-renowned authority on color had this to say about it:

“Dramatic and at the same time grounding, the rich and full-bodied red-brown Marsala brings color warmth into home interiors”

I couldn’t agree more. Marsala is such a mature colour that not only works in any design field but most importantly is equally appealing to both genders.

More often than not the colour of the year is seen as a trend that can easily forgotten by the next year, but in this case I strongly doubt Marsala is a passing craze. To prove this to you I have created three of my favourite colour combination mood boards that demonstrate how timeless it is.

Prepare to be amazed……

UNDISPUTED ELEGANCE: MARSALA AND GOLD

You can never go wrong by matching any colour with gold. In this case the combination is elegant, classy and mature because they are both deep and rich . If you’re not into the flashy glamorous look keep your use of gold minimal but if you’re all for it then ensure to have enough of it in the space to make a statement but not too much as you need the marsala to dominate the space and make it comfortable.

SERENITY: MARSALA AND SEA FOAM GREEN

Bring the serenity of a spa into any space. The contrast between the dramatic red and the calm blue is the perfect recipe for a zen interior. If you decide to go with these scheme I strongly suggest that you use the seafoam as the dominant colour and marsala as the accent thus allowing it to make a statement.

THE MANLY EDGE: MARSALA AND GREY

Red is definitely gender neutral and this particular one more so than others as its deeper hue also works well with a ‘manly’ scheme. As a neutral grey can be paired with any colour successfully. In this case the grey allows the marsala to dominate the space without being too bold and in your face creating a relaxed and chilled out space.

So, just in case you didn’t believe me the first time I shall say it again: Marsala is such a mature colour that not only works in any design field but most importantly is equally appealing to both genders.

What say you, do you agree with me or do you think it was simply a trend? If I’ve convinced you on the wonderful marvels of this colour and would like to know how it would work with your style why not take my style personality quiz HERE. After that be sure to leave a comment below telling me what style you got and the colours that you’d love to partner with Marsala and I’ll be sure to work out a mood board for a couple of you on one of my next posts.

Happy last day of 2015 to you all and a prosperous 2016. To add a dash of inspiration to your life I recommend that you SUBSCRIBE at the bottom of the page, trust me, It’ll be the best decision you’ll make this year.
