WISHBONE CHAIR BY HANS WEGNER

I remember the first time I ever saw the wishbone chair by Danish designer Hans J. Wegner. All these wonderful memories of my childhood flashed before my eyes. Specifically the ones where my mum and I would break the chicken wishbone together each of us making a silent wish with our eyes closed. No, this is not from an episode of Seventh Heaven. I kid you not this was a frequent event in our home (and yes we loved chicken that much).

So to see such a beautiful and timeless chair, made from such a simple and nonchalant concept, is really breathtaking to say the least. Have a look for yourself:

KENYAN ARTIST: MICHAEL SOI THE SOI-NSPIRATION ARTIST

When it comes to artists the world over, no one inspires me as much as Kenyan contemporary artist MICHAEL SOI. I first came across his work when I was interning for another great artist, sculptor GAKUNJU KAIGWA at KUONA ARTS CENTER in 2009. Honestly, my first impression of his work was confusion. Someone please get me to Chicago. NOW!!! (I have a feeling demanding wont work. Lets see, what else can work? Oh yes, there’s begging….)

TAKE 2!

Hi guys. How are you doing today? Has anyone told you how beautiful/handsome/charming/caring you are? Well you are! Now I was wondering if you could be so kind as to please get me to Chicago. Please…..pretty please…pretty please with sugar on top.

Why you ask, do I need to desperately go to to the windy city. Well, THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO has replicated the famous bedroom featured in Van Gogh’s paintings. For around Ksh 10,000, members of the public, hopefully including myself, can reserve a night’s stay via the home-sharing website Airbnb.
